Welcome

Hi! Welcome to our first post on our new blog! We are excited that you've taken some time to look at our website!

UGA Habitat had an amazing spring semester, where we continued to excel as one of UGA's largest student organizations on campus. We hosted two new events - Classic Game Tournament: Karting for Casas and Trivia Night at the Tavern - which brought us even closer to our goal of $30,000 for UGA Habitat's 10th home in the Athens area! We also continued to excel in Act! Speak! Build! Week, a student-run week of advocating for affordable housing. During this week, we held a pancake dinner in Creswell Hall, a second annual discussion panel on how UGA impacts poverty in Athens, our legendary annual poverty banquet and sleep-out on Tate Plaza, a successful letter writing campaign on Tate Plaza, and reached out to the community by visiting local elementary school art classes. Overall, UGA Habitat's largest advocacy and education campaign won Habitat for Humanity International's Outstanding Overall Campaign Award in the collegiate category!

Before we left campus for the summer, the walls and roof were up on UGA Habitat's 9th home, built in sponsorship with Athens Area Habitat for Humanity! UGA Habitat volunteers and Athens Area volunteers are continuing to build on our 9th home throughout the summer.

If you will be attending UGA in the fall, we invite you to join our chapter! Meeting dates will be updated on the website at the beginning of August. We also welcome you to join our listserv so that you can remain up-to-date with UGA Habitat's activities! We look forward to your involvement with the 8th Annual Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk, the second annual letter-writing campaign, Giftwrapping Across Georgia, and the new UGA Faculty Talent Show - to name a few events!

Through our events, we continue to exemplify the four pillars of Habitat for Humanity: Building, Advocacy, Fundraising, and Education. We hope that you will join and/or support us to continue in our goals of eliminating poverty housing in Athens, Georgia!
